Independence Summed up 2008
According to the results of 2008, the Independence Group sold 28 691 new cars in the Moscow market. The increase in sales was 37%, which considerably exceeded the 2007 result with 20 973 sold cars. As a whole, in Russia the group sold 30 155 cars in 2008 and 22 798 cars in 2007, the increase of sales was 32%. The growth rates of car sales from Independence’s portfolio of brands leaves behind the dynamics of sales by 15% in Moscow and 5% in Russia.
In 2008 the group’s turnover grew by 43% and was $1,4 billion. All scheduled investment projects had been successfully completed, which allowed opening modern dealer car centers in accordance with the manufacturers’ standards: Mazda, Volvo, BMW and Peugeot, as well as to substantially increase the service facilities. The company opened the largest body repair center which did not have analogs in Europe. With participation of large developers, a number of large projects were launched, among them there were: construction of a new BMW dealer center near Belaya Dacha close to the Moscow Ring Road and an Audi center in Berezhkovskaya Naberezhnaya, which is already at the end stage. The company’s investments in 2008 were more than $60 million of its own means.
According to the results of the year, Independence became a leader in selling Audi, Volvo, Jaguar and Volkswagen in Russia. The increase in sales for the majority of brands considerably outstripped their overall growth in Moscow: Land Rover by 38%, Mazda by 18%, and Volkswagen by 13%.
The Independence Jaguar division became a sales leader in continental Europe in 2008. In the fourth quarter the Peugeot division, which started to work only one year ago, managed to leave behind practically all leading Moscow dealers of this brand and to take the second place in relation to sales. The receipt of the status of the authorized BMW dealer became an important stage in developing Independence.
